Harriet Island Shelter Drive

20 Dec 2020 by Elisabeth Bagley (she/her/hers)

Hello everyone – I wanted to update you all as well as request some help getting the word out to our membership. The City of Saint Paul has opened up the Harriet Island Pavilion to provide shelter to the growing number of homeless observed though out the TwinCities, made worse by the pandemic. I am hoping to organize a clothing and toiletry drive – with support of our great club. This is what is needed:

Listening House is the City’s partner in establishing a new daytime drop in center for those experiencing homelessness. They have created a wish list of items: https://listeninghouse.org/volunteer/#sd-tab-amazon-wish-list
If they can pull it together in time, it would be nice if there was something to give the residents at Harriet Island Pavilion a gift on Christmas morning. There have never been more than twenty people per night. But there are beds for 45. They have regular access to new socks, underwear and hygiene products, here are a few ideas I have that would be special and needed.
Subzero sleeping bag
Head lamp flash light
Camping size backpack
Heat shield blankets
Fancy chocolate
Pre-paid (loadable) cell phone
Gift cards fast food, grocery store, pharmacy (be thoughtful about places that are more likely to be welcoming to an individual experiencing street person.)
Handwritten note

Hats
Mittens/gloves
Warm wool socks
Coats
Masks
blankets
Tooth brushes
Tooth Paste
Soap
Shampoo

These can be dropped off on my front porch: 382 Winslow Ave, 55107

Thanks to all,

Charlene
